People who lost their homes to Hurricane Irene and are still looking for a place to stay could soon have a short-term solution.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday it expects to start making temporary housing units available within a few days to victims of the storm.
The first unit will go up in Beaufort County, with other parts of eastern North Carolina following. The agency says the housing units are provided as a last resort only in areas with limited rental options, like rural regions.
Gov. Beverly Perdue says the temporary homes are vital to the recovery process.
Each manufactured housing unit comes equipped with a stove, refrigerator and microwave oven.
