CARTERET COUNTY: Bridges Closed

Carteret County has declared a state of emergency and has told all visitors and non-residents to leave.

Travel on the Atlantic Beach bridge and the Emerald Isle bridge was restricted at 8 p.m. Friday.

The county has also issued a mandatory evacuation for all residents of Bogue Banks. That includes residents of Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Pine Knoll Shores and other beach communities along the Crystal Coast. There will also be a curfew for Bogue Banks starting at 8:00 p.m. Friday.

Shelters are now opened at Newport Middle, West Carteret High, Atlantic Elementary and Beaufort Elementary schools.
