BOGUE INLET PIER: "We Hope To Rebuild"

There is hope for people sad to see part of the Bogue Inlet Pier at Emerald Isle collapsed during Hurricane Irene.

Mike Stanley, who owns the pier says, they plan to rebuild.

"We will hopefully be able to rebuild it quickly provided we can get through all of the red tape associated with coastal construction," posts Mike Stanley on the pier's website.

Stanley says 200 feet of the pier collapsed, just past the 5th shelter. The fish cleaning table at the end is gone.

Previous Story:
The Bogue Inlet Pier at Emerald Isle has collapsed during the pounding surf delivered by Hurricane Irene.

Photos that viewers put on Carolina Camera at show a considerable chunk of the end of the pier collapsed into the ocean early Saturday morning as Irene approached the shore.

Business owners told WITN earlier this week they feared the pier might collapse and the economic impact that would have on the area.

This pier was saved a few years ago from being closed down in order to develop the area. People from across the area and the state signed a petition to protect the pier.

Was at the pier two weeks ago with my family on our annual vacation to EI. It has been a central theme in our visits and hope it continues. Make sure to let all know about any rebuilding fund we can participate in. Learn from the emptiness of Sportsman's at the other end. Rebuild.

Don't forget several years ago Mike Stanley and his sister had the pier and the rv parks up for sale and the sell fell through.. I know this for a fact because I have a place at Beach Front and we were on the verge of having to move out... The STanley family was reported to make a lot of money from this sale... So there are two sides to this coin... I love Bogue Pier but I will never forget what the Stanley's put of through for around a year and a half...

It is sad to hear this news, but I am excited to hear that a rebuild it coming. Bogue Inlet Pier has been one of my best places to fish and to vacation in the area. Good Luck, and I will be there when it re-opens.

We were just there last week for vacation before being evacuated and we always stay right by the Bogue Inlet Pier. It is truly heartbreaking news and my family prays that the pier is rebuilt because there are so many wonderful family memories made there! so sad but we know that God is in control!

The pier is part of our life .... to so many people! Just look at the location of some of these folks! It's made an impression and it's the reason anyone knows what or where Emerald Isle is at all! I hope to see it rebuilt and soon! Good luck and I'll be watching how this goes.
