Looking at some of these comments makes me think there are going to be a lot of young adults from this county asking "would you like fries with that". Come on folks, this is our kids education here, why even think of taking short cuts with that? We are lucky to live in a place that has a public education system, and while it is not perfect, it is still alot better than what it could be.

Read these comments from your neighbors. Although it was sort of a joke, they prove my point. Seriously-who complains about school make up days because they intefere with vacation plans?? Get your priorities straight. It's only one day from the Thanksgiving break and one from the Christmas break. If your vacations are that important, let your children miss a day or two...

They really have no buffer in case of storms, snow, etc? ie, more than the required number of days scheduled so that they can lose a few without massive rescheduling. Is that just a way to save money?

Lenoir County has scheduled 2 make-up days and requested a waiver for the rest.

Some parents actually LOVE having their kids at HOME!! We plan vacations and family visits around my childrens off days so yeah its a bummer when you have to change everything. Plus my understanding was in the case of a federal disaster if children miss 5 consective days of school they will not have to make them up.

You should always put school first for your children!! I can't believe you are opposed to making the days up!! Some people just don't get it!

I am fine with the make-up days. Kids need all the classroom time they can get. By law they have to be in the classroom a certain number of days a year. We should be very lucky that this happened early in the year so there were move days to play with in making up days. As stated before they could be going on Saturdays to make days up so we should be satisfied.

School must be in session for a prescribed number of days. If parents are outraged by the chosen make-up dates then keep your child home and carry on with your other priorities. Don't fault the superintendent for the job he is doing. Natural disasters are out of his control and certain matters though unpopular must be dealt with!

People, if you have no clue what the waiver is actually for or how it can be used, please stop talking about it. Those of you complaining about sending your kids to school on a makeup day are the same ones who complain to teachers about them giving too much homework and pull your kids out for half of the day all the time. Until the decent parents start holding terrible parents accountable for their "parenting" actions, NC will continue to be near the bottom of every measurable educational statistic.

Typical Beaufort County - you want your kids to learn and do well on testing but upset if they have to go to school! For those saying "just add 5 days to end of year", you should research and know the rules. Your legislature tells your local school board when they can start and end the school year. Your local board can't "just add to the end of the year". My kids need all the school time they can get and they WILL BE GOING TO SCHOOL ON THESE MAKEUP DAYS!!

I don't have a problem with the makeup days proposed so far. So what, they're losing a day of Thanksgiving and Christmas Vacation and a Teacher's Workday. Could be much worse, one of the counties is issuing a Saturday makeup day.
