Hospitals in the east are prepping for Irene -- making sure they're able to care for patients during and after the storm.
The plant operations staff at Beaufort County Medical Center is testing generators and making sure fuel tanks are topped off before the wind really starts blowing. They were out early this morning checking the roof drains and making sure everything is secure.
All managers, especially on the nursing unit, have been asked to check their supplies and medications to make sure they have what they'll need, and they're asked to get their own homes in order.
"We encourage our staff, especially our essential staff, to go ahead and make their preparations at home so that they are available when the hospital needs them," said spokeswoman Pam Shadle.
The hospital has a written emergency plan and holds drills to make sure everyone knows how to handle different emergencies that could arise.
