A hurricane forecast pioneer says this year's storm season will be an active one.
Dr. William Gray has just released his forecast for the 2010 hurricane season and it is not good news.
Gray's forecast says this year's hurricane season will produce 15 named storms, four of those will be major hurricanes. They says due to a "dying" El Nino, tropical activity is expected to be about 60% above normal. Last year it was 35% below normal.
Researchers say there's a 45 percent chance of a hurricane hitting the East Coast, including Florida. The historical probably is 31 percent.
Nine named storms developed last season. Three became hurricanes, and none came ashore in the U.S.
Gray is Professor Emeritus of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University.
