Meteorologists are predicting an active 2010 hurricane season with above-normal threats on the United States coastline. Hurricane forecaster Joe Bastardi, an AccuWeather meteorologist, expects five hurricanes to hit the United States during the 2010 season. Bastardi expects about 16 named storms, which is higher than the normal of 10 to 11. The rapidly weakening El Nino, warmer ocean temperatures, weakening trade winds and higher humidity levels should all contribute to greater storm activity.
