Making Sure Your Pets Are Safe In The Storm

As tropical storm Hanna creeps closer to the Atlantic Coastline, there were still a few people out on the beach Wednesday and some even brought their pets.

But while many people may know that they have a place to go if evacuated, they may not know that half of Newport Middle School would be opened as a pet shelter.

The other half of the school is for people who need a place to go during the storm. Emergency management officials encourage anyone that lives in the area to register their pet with the humane society. But in an emergency, you can bring your pet to the shelter without registering.

You can get the necessary paperwork to register your pet by calling the emergency management office in Beaufort.
