Staff members from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Wilmington are headed to the Gulf Coast as part of a nationwide mobilization for Hurricane Gustav.
Two dozen members of the Wilmington staff left Friday for Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. Officials said the team is trained to distribute emergency supplies, such as water and ready-to-eat meals.
The storm again strengthened to a hurricane Friday afternoon. Forecasters said it could hit anywhere from the Florida Panhandle to Texas next week.
