Hundreds Will Wait Months To Hear If They Qualify For Hurricane Grant

Wednesday was the last day for residents to apply for the Pamlico County Hazard Mitigation grant program. The program will provide money for residents who applied and qualify for elevation assistance or a buyout. Pamlico County planner and economic developer Jayne Robb says at least 350 people have applied for the grant.

"This is very early information we're gathering right now, and hopefully it's to help our citizens know in about 4 months whether or not their property is cost effective on FEMA standards that way do they need to pursue other ways other options to mitigate their property or will it qualify for this grant," said Robb

Residents will have to wait 4 months to see if they qualify. The county doesn't expect to receive the money until 2013.
