NC Governor Declares State Of Emergency

North Carolina's governor has declared a state of emergency as evacuation of the coast ahead of Hurricane Earl continues.

Gov. Beverly Perdue issued the declaration during a Wednesday afternoon briefing at the state Emergency Operations Center near the state capital.

Earl's strongest winds are expected to reach the coast Thursday night into Friday morning. Perdue warned residents along the Outer Banks to leave those areas immediately.

Already, hundreds of cars were backed up in traffic on N.C. Highway 12, the sole link between the fragile barrier islands and the mainland.

This is what happens when you don't think or act for yourself. Frank S said it best. The Katrina effect. You stay put in a hole when a hurricane comes and then it is too late. Now the government has to come to the rescue. Everybody blames the government when something goes bad but yet they are the same people that hold out their hands when the government starts handing out checks. Take responsiblity for you own well being and protect yourself don't wait for somebody else to lokout for you!

Ah. Now the drama begins. A state of emergency. Cantore and the Weather Channel superstars are in place with their over the top acting, cool graphics, and scare tactics. Anderson Cooper will bring in Sean Penn and Brad Pitt to confort all of us. Pat Robertson will pray the storm away from Virginia. A state of fear and consumption exists now, and Lee Scott of Walmart could not be happier. Personally, I could care less.

This is the Katrina effect. Over reaction before anything happens to condition people to do nothing when a real emergency is here.
