Coastal Areas Keep An Eye On Potential Flooding

One of the potential threats from Hurricane Earl is coastal flooding, esepcially in low lying areas.

On the banks of the Neuse River in the Harlowe community of Craven County Gene Wallace has seen more than 30 years of tropical weather. And while he knows it only takes one bad storm to cause a heap of damage, he can only remember one storm in 2003 that ripped off doors from his garage. "Hurricane Isabel did not get into my house but it wiped out everything in my garage, doors and everything just ripped right out of the wall like it was never there."

Craven County emergency management director Stanley Kite knows that tropical weather can turn on a dime. "Fortunately for us it looks like several of em might miss us but then again I'm a strong advocate of it only takes one so we've always asked people to be prepared."

Kite says there are several communities thhey consider hotspots and those type of communities throughout the county will be monitored for flooding.

I'm taking tomorrow off and getting things ready for this. Making any neccesary preparations possible! I hate the fact my wife will be having to work these next few days, hope she stays safe. Luckily we are on some high ground, but just don't need wind damage in this area. Don't want any others to get flooded either!

I've installed pontoons on my home and I'm having the roof fitted for a mast & sails. Voila! Houseboat!
