Washington Police said morning rains have driven up water levels across some low-lying roads in the city.
Lieutenant William Chrismon said any road which typically sees extra water during a heavy rain should be crossed with extreme caution Friday morning, if not avoided entirely.
"You have to think before you drive through," said Lt. Chrismon. "It can be a lot deeper than what you see or can't see."
Officers said they are putting up some road blocks to re-route drivers, but expect them to be removed as water quickly recedes through the latter part of the morning.
Lt. Chrismon noted a few areas in particular where drivers are urged to use caution or just avoid:
- 12th and Brown streets
- Bridge Street between 3rd and 5th streets
