A cold front has become stationary over western North Carolina over the past 24 hours. The presence of the front combined with warm and moist air will produce some showers and thunderstorms for Tuesday and Wednesday. Moderate to heavy showers fell west of Highway 17 Monday while most of the coast had only isolated showers at best. There will be a 50/50 chance for showers the next two days. Rainfall should average one-quarter to one-half inch, with locally heavier amounts. Drier air will return for the last half of the week.
