Scattered showers and storms will continue this evening and gradually diminish over the next few hours.

There is a slight chance of an isolated severe storm but that threat will dissipate with the loss of daytime heating.

There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wayne county until 8:30 pm.

Heavy rain, winds in excess of 60 mph, large hail, and frequent lightning are possible with this storm.

The storm is slowly moving to the east at 15 mph.

There will be other scattered storms this evening.

The storms that do form will gradually weaken over the next few hours with loss of heating.

A cold front pushing into eastern Carolina will increase shower and thunderstorm activity on Saturday. Some of the storms may be strong to severe with gusty winds and heavy rain. There will be a brief window of dry skies early in the afternoon before thunderstorms begin developing.

Most locations should average one-half to one inch of rain, with locally heavier amounts. Highs will reach the middle to upper 80s. Expect a good chance for showers along the beaches with highs in the middle 80s. The unsettled weather pattern is likely to extend into early next week.
