A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
Sunshine and much warmer temperatures can be expected on Thursday. The official start of spring will be at 12:57 in the afternoon. Afternoon highs will be in the middle to upper 60s, which is close to normal temperatures for March 20.
More sunshine will be on tap for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will reach the upper 60s Friday and lower to middle 70s by Saturday afternoon. A cold front will cross the area Saturday night followed by much cooler conditions for Sunday and early next week. There will be a risk for some showers on Sunday.
