A surge of much warmer air will move into the area on Wednesday. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s inland and near 80 on the beaches. Skies will remain mostly sunny throughout the day. By Wednesday night a few storms may move into portions of Eastern Carolina from Virginia.
Hot conditions will continue on Thursday as temperatures hit the upper 80s to lower 90s. A few storms are possible again by the afternoon hours into the evening as a cold front slides towards the region.
Behind the front, drier and slightly cooler air will arrive on Friday and into the holiday weekend, with highs near 80 degrees inland and middle 70s on the beaches.
