A cold front will approach the area today, which will lead to showers and storms across the East. With the amount of heat and moisture available near the ground, the atmosphere will be ripe for thunderstorms. A small portion of eastern Carolina will be impacted by strong to severe storms during the afternoon to early evening hours.
Winds will be blustery as the front moves in, blowing from the west at 10 to 15 mph. Stronger winds are likely under thunderstorms. There is a low to moderate chance of hail, however the risk of tornadoes is low.
Calmer conditions will prevail Tuesday through Friday with milder air moving in behind the front.
