A strong cold front pushed through eastern North Carolina Monday night causing numerous showers and thunderstorms. Some of the rain was locally heavy with amounts of 1" to 1.50" in several locations. The front will move well to the south of the area on Tuesday allowing drier and cooler air to move in. Highs will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s with northerly winds at 7 to 15 mph.
Enjoy the next couple of days because intense heat will return at the end of the week. Highs should hit the middle to upper 90s by Friday with heat indices above 100°. A Heat Advisory may be issued by Friday afternoon.
