Afternoon highs Monday will reach the lower 80s inland and lower 70s along the beaches. The increase in moisture in the atmosphere will increase the cloud cover this afternoon, but showers will hold off until late tonight. Winds will generally be from the south at 7 to 15 mph.
A strong cold front will approach Eastern Carolina bringing more clouds and a chance for showers and storms by late Monday night and Tuesday. The ingredients for severe weather come together after 1pm on Tuesday ahead of a cold front. The biggest threat will be strong straight-line winds, but small hail and a tornado cannot be ruled out. Cooler temperatures can be expected by the middle of next week.
