High pressure over the Southeastern US is keeping our weather hot. Highs will be in the mid 90s inland Thursday through Friday afternoon. There could be an isolated thundershower any afternoon, but most places will remain rain-free during the day Thursday. Skies will be mostly sunny and hazy. Humidity levels will creep up causing afternoon heat index values of 97 to 102. Thunderstorm chances increase Thursday evening and overnight. Any storms that form could produce strong winds, vivid lightning, and heavy rain.
Friday will see partly sunny skies with a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms. Highs will be a couple of degrees lower than Thursday, but still hot and humid.
The Summer season begins this weekend with temperatures easing just a touch as the chance of scattered thunderstorms increases. Highs will be in the lower 90s and there is a 40% chance for some relief from the heat in the form of a thunderstorm. Early next week appears to have more seasonal temperatures and a continued chance of thundershowers.
The tropics remain quiet.
