A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
What was supposed to be a mild and sunny afternoon has turned wet and stormy for some communities in eastern Carolina. A large thunderstorm formed around noon and moved over Goldsboro, pouring rain and hail. Lightning associated with these storms has been reported. That storm has since broadened and is currently southeast of New Bern.
There was also a smaller yet comparably intense storm that moved over Greenville and is currently northwest of Swan Quarter. Lightning and hail has been reported with that storm as well.
These systems are expected to continue a southwest track, putting Maysville, Rose Hill, Bayboro, Swan Quarter, Beulaville, Richlands and other communities in the storm path.
We will continue to update you with information regarding these storms.
