Storms Left 2,000+ Carteret County Customers Without Power

UPDATE: Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative says damaged lines have been cleared up, and power was back on for most CCEC customers by 6:00 p.m.

PREVIOUS STORY:
Power outages in Carteret County are affecting more than 2,000 customers. Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative says it has about 1,750 customers without power after possible tornado activity knocked down a utility pole and brought trees down across power lines.

Progress Energy is reporting about 500 customers affected by outages in Carteret County. Most of the outages are in Atlantic Beach with about 420 customers affected.

Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative says members along Highway 101 from Laurel Road to Copeland Road in Carteret County will be without power while crews clear up damaged lines in that area. The power outage to the 1,000-plus co-op members is necessary to ensure the safety of crews and the public while repairs are made.

Crews also are working to clear two large trees off lines near the water tower on Laurel Road, which has knocked out power to an estimated 750 CCEC members in South River, Merrimon and North River.

CCEC says the same severe weather band also broke a utility pole serving several members in the Crab Point area of Morehead City. Crews are on scene there as well.
