UPDATE:
A line of showers and storms is moving west to east tonight.
The line is capable of producing very heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds.
At this time the storms are below the severe threshold but there is still the chance for a few isolated severe storms.
Expect the showers to linger into the overnight as a cold front moves through the area.
Overnight lows will drop to near 70° under mostly cloudy skies.
PREVIOUS:
There is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Halifax, Northampton, Edgecombe, Wayne, and Wilson counties until 10:00 pm.
Scattered showers and storms will continue to form this evening with the potential for some of the storms to become severe.
Any storm that forms will produce very heavy rain, frequent lightning, hail, and gusty winds.
In the strongest storms the winds will be capable of gusting to 60 mph or greater with up to quarter size hail.
The severe threat will diminish late this evening as a cold front moves through the area.
Improving conditions are expected after midnight.
