Skies will stay cloudy Monday, with rain chances increasing through the day. Showers will turn from scattered to widespread from the morning into the afternoon hours. Temperatures will be on the rise as a warm front pushes across the area around noon, allowing air temps to reach the low 70s. A few thunderstorms will be possible by late afternoon into the evening hours. Eastern North Carolina will be under a slight risk for severe storms from late afternoon Monday through about midnight. The primary threat will be wind gusts over 60 mph, with a small risk for an isolated tornado.

A cold front will move through the area Tuesday morning bringing more showers and scattered storms through late morning. The rain should move offshore by midday with partly cloudy skies and low 70s by Tuesday afternoon.
