New Bern Officials Urge Residents To Take Precautions For Beryl

New Bern officials say cerws are working to clear culverts and storms drains in advance of Beryl and want homeowners to do the same.

The city has provided some tips for its residents:

-If you live near a storm drain, make sure it is clear of vegetative debris and litter.
-Clean out your gutters and downspouts. Proper drainage of these two can help carry water away from your home.
-Secure loose items around your home (or bring them inside) that could become projectiles and could damage homes, people, or animals. Additionally, projectiles and loose objects can become clogged in catch basin grates, storm drains and pipes.
-Report power outages and damages to City of New Bern Utilities Control at (252)636-4070.

Officials are also warning people not to drive on flooded roadways and not to let children play in floodwaters.

They also advise residents to pay close attention to warnings from emergency management officials if they recommend evacuations.
