Warmer and drier-than-normal conditions are expected to continue across much of the Midwest into the fall. The area has been ravaged by a severe drought all summer. Nearly 62% of the contiguous United States is covered in a drought, with much of the Midwest suffering under extreme conditions. The drought has damaged the corn crop with production nationwide down about 13%. Some Midwest farmers have seen their crops totally dry up. Overall, it has been one of the driest and hottest summers on record.
