A developing area of low pressure along the Gulf Coast will move northeast bringing heavy rain to the Southeast and a blanket of heavy snow to the Northeast. A Winter Storm Watch has already been issued for New York City and points north and east. A Blizzard Watch has been issued for portions of eastern New England. Six to 12 inches of snow will fall in much of the area with as much as two feet possible in Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts. Strong winds to gale force with cause considerable blowing and drifting of the snow. The most severe part of the storm will hit Friday evening into Saturday afternoon.
