Part of I-95 in Halifax County and several roads in Roanoke Rapids are shut down because of major flooding in the area.

Halifax County officials say the flooding is due to precipitation that came through early Saturday morning. They say more than 7 inches of rain has fallen since 4 a.m.

I-95 at Exit 173 is closed, the road is not expected to reopen until later in the day.

Sam Powell Dairy Road is also flooded and closed near Highway 48.
