WITN Meteorologist Phillip Williams says Hurricane Issac and last year's hurricane Irene are very similar, and people in the east who suffered damage last year say they have empathy for the people in Gulf Coast states right now.
People living in Beaufort County who endured hurricane Irene say, they know all too well what people in Louisiana are going through.
Hurricane Irene and Isaac were both category one storms when they hit the shore. When Irene came through it brought high winds and heavy rain and hit areas over and over for many hours, much like hurricane Isaac is doing now in Louisiana.
Williams says the difference is residents in eastern carolina had more time to prepare for hurricane Irene whereas, Issac stayed a tropical storm and then quickly developed into a hurricane.
"When they say you need to get in your car and go somewhere to get protected I think you need to do that," said John Daniels of Pamlico Beach.
