A slow moving weather pattern will continue across eastern Carolina through Wednesday. A bit more sunshine should take afternoon highs near 90 degrees before a few showers and storms develop in the afternoon. Heat indices will be well into the 90s by the afternoon.

A cold front will approach eastern Carolina from the northwest on Thursday with showers and storms likely after midday. A few strong storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening with gusty winds and some small hail the primary severe threats. Lightning is a threat from any thunderstorm. Temperatures will likely hit 90 degrees in most locations before any storms arrive.

Storm activity will become more isolated by Friday and the weekend, with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees under partly sunny skies.
