As hurricane season opens this weekend, forecasters are predicting a below-average summer with 8-13 tropical storms, 3-6 hurricanes and only one or two of these major storms.
"The seasonal forecast, it's for the scientists. For the public, your message doesn't change, It's always about what people need to do to get ready," said FEMA director Craig Fugate.
It only takes one storm to wipe away a community and to alter lives forever.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.
