It's a relief to hear tropical storm Alberto is headed out to sea just 8 months after Hurricane Irene devastated parts of the east. People are still rebuilding their homes and businesses from that storm.
On the crystal coast where the tourism season is just about to kick off, we spoke with people about our brush with Alberto.
Beaches along the crystal coast Monday were busy with families and friends enjoying the warm day. Clouds and threatening rain loomed in the distance in Pine Knoll Shores. Some had their on on the skies, other on the water for possible rip currents.
Forecaster with the National Weather Service Brian Cullen in Newport says for the next 48 hours rip currents will have the biggest impact in the east.
"More than likely through the day today. Then continue on Tuesday. Then the threat will be more than likely diminishing on Wednesday," said Cullen.
Cullen says early hurricane season projections say it will be a less active season, but he says the official forecast for hurricanes comes out Thursday and that will have a better indication on what can be expected this season.
Hurricane season officially starts June 1st.
