Cedar Island Residents Feel Sandy's Effects

Coastal residents in Eastern Carolina have been making their preparations throughout the day. This, as Hurricane Sandy makes the first of what’s expected to be several hours of her presence known.

Residents on Cedar Island in Carteret County know all too well what to expect from Hurricanes just scooting by.

Sherwin Goodwin shared his routine, “I took everything into the house, got the generator ready. Got everything prepared just as if it's gonna be a major hurricane.”

Cedar Island was hit hard by Hurricane Isabelle and most recently Hurricane Irene. Emergency workers say the island will likely get the brunt of the storm in Carteret County.

"Where I live right here is the worst place on the island about tidewater coming onto the property," said Tony Goodwin.

His home was raised after Hurricane Isabelle. Now his low lying property is a guide to locals as to when it’s time to really hunker down.
