Beryl was down graded Monday afternoon to a tropical depression. The storm is expected to move along the coast of eastern north carolina midweek bringing a chance of thunderstorms, but the the chance of rain Monday didn't keep people from spending Memorial Day on Crystal Coast beaches.
At Atlantic Beach, many grabbed their towels and sunscreen and spent the day playing volleyball or working on their tan. Many said despite the warning for a potential tropical storm, it wasn't enough to break their tradition of spending the holiday on the beach with family and friends.
"I was worried that maybe we might get some rain up here today. But, we haven't yet. It's been a little cloudy, but as you can see, it's cleared off and sunshiny. There's people playing volleyball and soccer on the beach, so it's really wonderful out here," said Jonathan Searle who
spent Memorial Day on the beach.
