A strong storm will develop over Kentucky on Tuesday, moving eastward over the North Carolina-Virginia coastline Tuesday night into Wednesday. This will bring plenty of wind and rain to eastern Carolina with snow further to our north.
Periods of moderate to heavy rain will be likely Tuesday night with a rumble of thunder possible as well. One half to one inch of rain will be possible.
As the storm strengthens off the coast Wednesday, cold winds will crank up across the area. Winds of 20 to 30+ mph will drive the temps into the middle 40s by mid afternoon. Periods of lighter rain may start to mix with snowflakes over far northern counties by late Wednesday. The best chance of snow will stay generally north of the state line. Snowfall may accumulate to 1" along the northern state line. Much of the state of Virginia could see 3 to 6+" of snow on Wednesday.
