Possible Weekend Showers
A strong cold front will bring a risk of showers to eastern North Carolina by Saturday night. Reporter: Marvin Daugherty |

We should start the weekend with sunny skies but a strong cold front could bring showers by Saturday night. The front is part of a larger system that will bring heavy snow to portions of the Midwest and much of the Northeast on Saturday. Most areas should receive a quarter to half-inch of rain as the system moves through. Before that happens we should see a decent amount of morning sunshine that should take temperatures into the lower 60s in the afternoon. As the cold front passes offshore early Sunday, we'll see temperatures begin to fall. Afternoon highs on Sunday should hold in the 50s and that may be the warmest temperatures we'll see next week. A series of storm systems moving by to our north will bring progressively colder air into the area. By the end of next week we could see the coldest temperatures in several years.
