CONFIRMED: Tornado Struck Jones County Thursday

The National Weather Service says a tornado did touch down yesterday afternoon outside of Trenton.
Jim Merrell, a meteorologist with the weather service in Newport tells WITN News that an EF-0 tornado struck a hog farm on Highway 41. An EF-0 is the weakest type of tornado, with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour.
The weather service says they are still waiting on data to determine whether it was a tornado or a downburst that caused damage around the courthouse.

Jones county emergency workers say a powerful storm rolled through Jones County Thursday night. Some believe it was a tornado.
The cemetery in downtown Trenton is covered with downed trees. Several limbs are scattered throughout the graveyard covering up some headstones.
Many trees were downed along with minor damage to homes in the area. One homeowner saw a tree thrown onto his back porch and mangle a pair of cars. No injuries have been reported at this time.

There are multiple reports of damage tonight in Jones County after law enforcement officers say a tornado touched down, west of Trenton.
Trees and power lines are down on Highways 58 and 41, and a tree down on at least one home on Highway 41. The weather service says there are also reports of power lines down in Trenton.
The cold front pushing through is bringing this severe weather to Eastern Carolina.

WITN great job on your weather reporting...people are gonna complain one way or another regardless of what u do. i remember a few months ago witn was getting bashed relentlessly for interrupting golf during a tornado outbreak...now its the opposite. as far as im concerned tho witn does the best job and thats why they're the first i turn too
