Taiwanese villagers cleaned up their homes Tuesday after a strong typhoon came through, killing at least two people, flooding buildings and damaging orchards. Typhoon Fung Wong hit Taiwan early Monday with sustained winds of 105 mph. The storm dumped as much as 30 inches of rain in some areas. Taiwanese officials were closely monitoring several bridges where supports were damaged from Fung Wong and tropical storm Kalmaegi, which killed 19 people when it struck Taiwan earlier in July. Typhoons frequently hit Taiwan between July and September, often triggering flash floods and landslides in overly developed mountainous regions.
