An area of low pressure along the Florida coast may become a tropical storm this weekend as it drifts northward just off the Southeast coast. Clouds and showers will spread northward on Friday and reach extreme southeastern North Carolina by evening. On Saturday the system is expected to spread showers into much of Eastern North Carolina, especially areas along and east of Highway 17. At this point it is too early to determine whether the system will actually become a named storm and how strong the winds will be. All residents of coastal and eastern North Carolina are encouraged to listen to updates on the storm. Stay tuned to WITN-TV and this website to get the latest information throughout the day and night.
