The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection indicate that wildfires across the state have destroyed 60 homes and other buildings and continue to threaten surrounding areas. There seems to be little relief in sight as dry and hot conditions will persist through the holiday weekend. The areas hit by the fires this year are less populated than in 2007 when several major residential areas were threatened. Excessive heat warnings remain in effect for the state for the next several days.
