Increasing southerly winds and moisture brought a few thunderstorms to Eastern North Carolina on Friday afternoon. For some areas it was the most rainfall this month while the majority of locations went another day without a drop. This weekend will offer the best opportunity for rain since back in May. The risk for showers should reach 40 to 50 percent on Saturday and Sunday. A few showers could linger into Monday but most areas will begin to dry out. By the latter part of next week sunshine and hot air will return and will once again send temperatures into the 90s. The weekend rainfall will be very important since farmers, gardeners and folks that need water on their lawns are depending on it.
