A major spring storm produced turbulent conditions across the Southeast on this date in 1987. Thunderstorms developing along a cold front produced severe weather along the Southern Atlantic Coast. A tornado killed one person and injured seven others near Mount Dora, Florida. Drifts of hail up to two feet deep were reported in Davidson and Rowan counties in central North Carolina. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was flooded with seven inches of rain in three hours. Two years later on April 15 showers and thunderstorms soaked the eastern United States with heavy rain. It pushed the rainfall total for the month at Cape Hatteras past their previous April record of 7.10 inches.
