On and off quick downpours will be possible through Sunday afternoon. Heavier rain could bring another 1 to 3 inches of rain to a few locations late Sunday and into Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of Eastern North Carolina from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Wednesday. Developing low pressure off the North Carolina coast and high pressure building eastward from the Midwest will cause strong northerly winds during the day. The high pressure will also feed very dry air into the area with relative humidity values dropping to near 20 percent by midday through the afternoon. The combination of strong winds and dry air will lead to dangerous fire weather conditions by late Wednesday morning. Everyone across Eastern North Carolina is encouraged to refrain from burning and any other activities that could result in a rapidly spreading wildfire.
