The air quality (ozone) forecast season begins next Tuesday,
April 15th and is the official start of the 2008 ozone air quality forecasts across the state of North Carolina. The particle pollution (fine particle or PM2.5) air quality forecasts continue for the Charlotte and Hickory regions as these forecasts are predicted year-round. In addition, April 15th kicks off forecasting particle pollution for the Triangle, Fayetteville, and Asheville regions. Ozone levels tend to peak during the afternoon. PM2.5 typically peaks in the overnight and early morning, while it may remain high throughout the entire day. When both pollutants are high, the air may be unhealthy throughout the entire day.
