Cold air behind a strong weekend storm system caused temperatures to fall to freezing or slightly below on Monday morning. Winds diminished Sunday evening and temperatures plummeted as skies remained clear. The current cold spell will be replaced with warming temperatures for the remainder of the week. Midweek temperatures should reach the middle to upper 60s and by Friday many areas should be near the 70 degree mark. The next significant chance for rain will develop Friday night into Saturday as another strong cold front pushes into the area. Some overnight low temperatures included the following:

Greenville - 28
Kenansville - 28
Jacksonville - 28
New Bern - 29
Rocky Mount - 29
Washington - 30
Edenton - 30
Ahoskie - 30
Elizabeth City - 31
