A milder than normal winter was verified for Eastern North Carolina after reviewing the data for December, January and February. At the WITN-TV weather station the average was about 45 degrees for the three-month period ending February 29. This temperature is 2.4 degrees above normal. This was the third winter in a row with above normal temperatures for the region. Unless there is snow within the next few weeks it will also be another winter season with very little or no snow for the area. The last significant snowfall occurred in December, 2004 when two snow storms hit much of the area.
