A major winter storm lashed the Northeast on Friday snarling traffic and causing flight delays. The storm brought as much as six inches of snow to New York City before changing to rain late in the day. Areas just north of the city received as much as 9 to 10 inches. Flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark International Airport were delayed more than five hours. In Philadelphia the average arriving flight was 4 1/2 hours late. Winter Storm Warnings continued over much of the Northeast Friday evening where snow was changing to freezing rain and sleet. Improving conditions are expected on Saturday as skies clear and temperatures reach the freezing mark or slightly above.
