Eastern North Carolina is not immune from severe weather during the winter months. As many as four tornadoes ripped through the region earlier this week. On February 21, 1989, thunderstorms developed during the morning hours spread severe weather across Georgia and the Carolinas. Strong thunderstorm winds caused one death and thirteen injuries in North Carolina, and another four injuries in South Carolina.
