A tornado ripped through Greene County near Hookerton early Monday morning leaving only minor injuries but damage was significant. Winds reached the 2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale that measures tornado damage. It was estimated that winds likely reached at least 135 mph in the storm's path. Trees were down in Pactolus in Pitt County and fortunately three families were able to escape from their mobile homes without injuries. Other damage was reported in Martin County about 10 miles south of town where debris was scattered. Chowan County near Edenton indicated some trees were blown down. Power was temporarily knocked out to several counties in the eastern part of the state.
